All of the pottery shown here has been high-fired in a gas kiln to cone 10-12 (about 2,400 degrees F). I coat each piece first with a shino glaze, then brush designs on using wax resist. Once completely dry, the final layer of accent glaze is applied.

Shino contains a large concentration of soda ash, whose crystals migrate to the surface of a pot during drying and firing creating 'carbon trapping'. The result can be quite striking and extremely unpredictable.

My work continues to change and evolve as each firing brings new ideas and inspirations.
